CHRISTMAS TIME IN AMERICA

December 11, 1999

The pictures were taken at Oglebay in Wheeling, West Virginia. Oglebay is a tourist attraction especially during the winter months.During the winter over 150 acres are decorated in lights and tourist drive through the park to enjoy and photograph the lights. You drive through two tunnels of light. One is nothing but lights the other has giant snowflakes along with the lines of lights. They are very attractive.

The pictures were taken from the bus window because you drive through this park. Several thousand people enter this park and enjoy the many light up displays. There is no charge to go through the park but a donation is appreciated to pay expenses.

Park employees live in the park rent free. They must maintain not only the light displays during the winter but also keep up the grounds during the other months. The park during warm weather has a golfing area, a tennis court, horseback riding, trails that you walk, as well as a mansion that is also a museum. During the winter months several rooms of the mansion are turned to Chrismas from other countries and cultures so visitors will be able to understand that not everyone celebrates the birth of Christ in the same way.

I hope you enjoy the pictures. I shall try to send some of the decorations in my area at a later date. These will entirely different from the Oglebay decorations because these are private homes and done by families who enjoy sharing the season's joy with others.
